Humanities: Exploring Freedom, Identity, and Purpose

At Lorien Wood, our humanities curriculum immerses students in American literature, history, and global cultural studies. Through thematic units and semester courses, students examine concepts like freedom, identity, and purpose, culminating in projects that reflect their insights. In Form Six, students explore modern and postmodern perspectives on identity while engaging with timeless questions from ancient and medieval thinkers, fostering an appreciation for universal human experiences and cultural expressions.

Servant Leadership:

We aim to help students deepen their understanding of who God is, discover their unique purpose, and learn about His world. We prepare them to engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives, articulate their beliefs, and contribute for God’s glory. Partnering with parents, we launch young adults ready to serve with confidence, courage, and grace across the globe.

Form System:

The Form system continues in the Lorien Wood High School years. Form 5 is 9th and 10th Grade. Form 6 is 11th and 12th Grade.

Integrated Science Studies:

Form Five students at Lorien Wood explore Biology and Chemistry in 9th and 10th grades, integrating scientific skills with Humanities concepts. Topics include ecology, biochemistry, genetics, botany, and zoology. In 11th grade, students apply Environmental Science knowledge to campus or community projects inspired by our Outdoor Curriculum. Senior year focuses on Physics, examining the principles of the physical world.

Advanced Experiential Learning:

In the high school years at Lorien Wood, experiential learning flourishes with captivating activities such as immersing in a 1920s Speakeasy, indulging in a Gilded Age Dinner, and exploring the solemnity of Washington DC's war memorials. Additionally, enriching field trips to a number of Smithsonian museums further deepen students' understanding of history and science.

Innovative Learning Grounded in Timeless Truths

In the high school years at Lorien Wood, we continue our unique, integral approach to education, viewing God’s world as a unified whole where subjects like literature, science, art, math, and history inform each other. This approach nurtures the whole student and fosters a school environment that glorifies God and inspires a lifelong love of learning.
