Heather Etner
Board Chair
Heather has long cherished the beauty of God’s creation, a love rooted in summers spent outdoors during her youth. After earning a master’s degree in economics from Penn State University, she postponed a position at the Treasury Department to work at a Christian camp she attended as a child. Heather and her husband Martin, an Eagle Scout from Pennsylvania, share a passion for the outdoors and have made it a regular part of their family life. Since 2011, Lorien Wood has been a natural fit for their family, aligning with their love for nature and commitment to integrating a Biblical worldview into all areas of life. Heather and Martin have three children at Lorien Wood and are active leaders at McLean Presbyterian Church. Heather also leads a Bible study, works as a self-employed accountant, and dedicates her time to Scouting and supporting ministries like International Justice Mission and Compassion International.
Bree Steiner
Vice-Chair & Secretary
Bree and her husband Shane (RDML, USPHS/USCG) have been part of the Lorien Wood community since enrolling their daughters, now 10 and 12, in Kindergarten. Drawn by the school’s rich Biblical curriculum and exceptional outdoor education program, Bree has served on the Board for six years. Passionate about supporting neurodiverse students in Northern Virginia, Bree brings both dedication and vision to her role. A graduate of Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis and the University of Missouri, Columbia, Bree and her family worship at McLean Presbyterian Church, where their daughters are active in the youth ministry. The Steiners also support various ministries, including The Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, Prison Fellowship, and The Salvation Army. Bree enjoys musical theater, singing, exploring National Parks, and playing mahjong.
Kevin Prestwich
Lorien Wood Parent
Kevin and his wife, Rebekah, chose Lorien Wood for their three children because of the school’s strong Biblical Worldview and its commitment to showing how God’s truth permeates every aspect of life. They worship at Del Ray Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA, and support Save the Storks, a pro-life organization providing compassionate care and resources to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Professionally, Kevin has worked in economic research at the Federal Reserve, software development, and management consulting, and has run his own consulting business for the past 10 years. In his free time, he enjoys running, hiking, and exploring the outdoors with his wife and children, reflecting his dedication to family, faith, and Christ-centered living.
Jay Smith
Lorien Wood Parent
Jay Smith lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Lark, who has attended Lorien Wood for three years. They deeply value the school’s innovative curriculum and individualized approach to education. Jay has an extensive professional background, having served as Regional Director of Multimedia and Publications for a major defense contractor and as Cultural Architect at Convergence, a Christian organization supporting artists. Currently, he works as a music composer. Dedicated to Lorien Wood’s mission, Jay leads the school’s monthly prayer group and enjoys gardening in his free time.
Cody L. Reaves
Sidley Austin LLP
Senior Managing Associate
Cody is a senior managing associate at Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, D.C., where he specializes in appellate and regulatory litigation. He and his wife have two children at Lorien Wood, one of whom was part of the inaugural year of the Shire preschool program. Deeply committed to the school’s mission of Christ-centered education, Cody brings a passion for integrating faith and learning to his role on the Board. He also maintains an active religious liberties practice through his work with the Yale Law School Free Exercise Clinic, regularly filing amicus briefs in cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Cody and his family worship at The Falls Church Anglican.
